DaCosta hunts third straight She’s On Wheels Trophy with Ronron
CHAMPION and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta, winner of the two last editions of the $1,188,000 She’s On Wheels Trophy, hunts his third consecutive success with multiple Grade One winner American-bred Ronron in the anchoring event of the 11-race-card at card at Caymanas Park today at 5:05 pm.
DaCosta won the She’s On Wheels with his American-bred gelding Chadman in 2008 and returned the following year to repeat with Ahwhofah.
Last year the race was not contested, but this year with a truculent field of six runners, including four of the five best sprinters in training facing the starter, almost any number can land the gambit.
Among her most rabid rivals will be the reigning champion sprinter Saint Cecelia, who is a daughter of She’s On Wheels and Dance So Sweet. The composition of the race is projected to be overtly competitive to the very end and the champion trainer will take his chances with Ronron, who has so far garnered three wins from four starts for the season, along with the improving local-bred Lifeisjustforliving, last season’s top three-year-old sprinter and the winner of his last three races this season with his last two coming in Open Allowance company.
Both have trained well, but is the top weight dasher, Ronron, the mount of Shane Ellis who will attract most attention.
Ronron, while taking orders from high-riding second generation trainer Gary Subratie, proved almost unbeatable after winning 10 of his 13 races under his care, while finishing second on the other occasions.
Owned by Kenval Wallace, Ronron — a four-year-old bay filly by Lion Heart out of Technical Analysis (Grindstone) — was recently moved over to the barn of the champion trainer, and on her first outing, suffered defeat by her former stablemate the rich-form smasher, Dance So Sweet.
