MoBay United tackle St Bess in friendly
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Two-time former Premier League champions Seba United who less than a month ago had a name change to Montego Bay United Football Club, will take on a St Elizabeth FA All Star team this afternoon.
The friendly is expected to be played at the Lacovia Community Centre starting at 3:30 pm and according to St Elizabeth FA president Patrick Malcolm, football fans should expect an entertaining game.
“This friendly match with the Montego Bay United is an attempt to develop football in the parish and to expose the football talent we have here,” Malcolm said.
“Shortly after this match we are expecting to have another friendly game with Portmore United of St Catherine.”
Seba, winners of the national football title in 1987 and 1997, only this season gained promotion to the top flight after being relegated in the 2008/09 season.
This will be the second time the club will be changing its name since being formed in 1972. The original name was Beacon before switching to Seba United and taking Jamaica by storm in the early 1980s.
Former National players Noah Sterling, Allan Latty, Paul “Tegat” Davis, Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore, Stephen “Shorty” Malcolm, Hector Wright and Norman Foster are some of the big names that have carried Seba to the pinnacle of local football. They were the first team from Western Jamaica to win the Premier League.
The club’s Under-15 team captured the Canada Invitational Robbie Soccer Tournament recently.
