Cup champions – Arnett cool W’House in dramatic final
ARNETT Gardens turned in an impressive display to capture the Claro KSAFA Champions Cup with a 3-2 win over Waterhouse at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday and walked away with $250,000 winning prize.
Waterhouse for their losing effort collected $170,000, while Harbour View pocketed $150,000 for third by virtue of losing in the semi-finals to the eventual winner. Super League champion Cavalier finished fourth and got $70,000.
The game bordered on the brink of disaster just before half time after referee Wilverglen Lamey disallowed two Waterhouse goals with Arnett Gardens leading 2-0.
The resulting arguments saw Waterhouse head coach Donovan Duckie being banished from the bench, which enraged the Waterhouse faithful and the delight of the Arnett fans.
Jernaine Anderson’s effort in the 30th minute was ruled offside then 12 minutes later, Peter Keyes, was deemed to have committed a foul before getting the ball into the back of the net.
The lanky Rohan Reid had given Arnett a seventh minute lead, nodding home from a corner kick.
Captain Kirk Ramsey then doubled the advantage by latching onto to a Girvan Brown pass which he fired home in the 12th minute.
The much improved Errol Stevens drilled home the third in the 69th minute, putting the game beyond Waterhouse.
But Keyes gave the Drewsland outfit a glimmer of hope firing home in the 78th minute, making it 3-1 with 12 minutes remaining.
Subsitute Phillip Peddie reduced the score to 3-2, heading home in time added, but by then the game was over.
The Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis-coached Arnett Gardens, employing the 3-5-2 formation, came out full of running and never allowed Waterhouse to settle.
This was evident by the constant gestures by Waterhouse coach Duckie, who tried desperately to get his players to adjust to Arnett’s five-man midfield, but before he knew it his team was two goals behind.
