Paul Campbell’s younger brother seeks piece of the pie
After watching his brother, actor Paul Campbell, light up the big screen in flicks such as The Lunatic, Dancehall Queen and Third World Cop, his younger brother Dale Campbell aka I-Shalome is now seeking to make his own path — in the music field that is.
He will be the first to admit that it won’t be an easy task as the island is awash with upcoming acts all seeking the same goal.
But with great confidence he stated, “I am coming with peculiar music, evolution music, music that comes from everything that I heard and seen. I just have to put words to the voice I was born with.”
I-Shalome’s music can be classified as lover’s rock and culture
He says his most recent self-produced singles Able Woman, Children Children are receiving good radio rotation both here and on the international scene.
Nah Go A Jail Again (and he goes to great lengths to point out that is nothing like Busy Signal’s) on the Wise Up label is also said to be receiving a lot of love on the international scene.
Big brother Paul will be flying into the island this week to lend his support to the music video for Children Children.
It is expected that the video will be a fitting complement to the single and will see it adding to the single’s popularity with music lovers.
According to I-Shalome’s bio his name was derived from Shalom a biblical term which means to be complete, perfect and full — he says his mandate is to living out its meaning in his recording and performance.
I-Shalome who hails from St Catherine started singing while going to Sunday school at church and his short stint at Sir Clifford Campbell Primary School in Jamaica. The singer migrated to States at a young age where he continued his education at the Evander Junior School in Bronx New York, then to Carmel High School Upstate New York.
With his cousin Richie Stephens in the music biz, I-Shalome wasn’t short on encouragement and a musical guide.
In 2000 I-Shalome linked up with Rich Stewart a producer of Intangible Recordings where he not only honed his skill as a recording artiste but also got involved in charity works, as Intangible Recordings had formed many different charitable organisations including Upliftment Jamaica, Upliftment Caribbean and Upliftment Africa.
Through I-Shalome’s involvement in these charitable organisations he was introduced to record executive Gary Foster of Def Jam and saw his song included on a compilation album with all the proceeds going towards charity for underprivileged children. The album included Mad Cobra, Alicia Keys, Lumidee to name a few of the star studded line up.
Now back in Jamaica I-Shalome is now busy in the studio working with producers such as Clive Hunt, he also has a collab in the works with Teflon.
In the pipeline too is the first single Wise Up Baby Girl, off his upcoming album . Speaking about the song he says it will be a strong Lovers Rock ballad that will stamp his presence on the Reggae industry.
Looking ahead I-Shalome says he has a few shows lined up for Caribbean and South Africa leading up to the end of the year.
