CATHERINE HALL, St James – A new football era is expected to start this Sunday when the newest football franchise Montego Bay United Football Club (MBUFC) will play its first home game, when they host Boys’ Town in a National Premier League game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, starting at 5:00 pm.

MBUFC, which are the former two-time champions Seba United, changed it’s name in the pre-season, ostensibly according to president Orville Powell to attract a broader support base.

Both teams were losers on Sunday when the NPL made its belated kick-off. Boys’ Town were beaten at home 0-1 by Reno, while MBUFC scored first against defending champions Tivoli Gardens but lost 1-2.

Western Jamaica’s other team Village United also lost, going down 1-2 to Arnett Gardens at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

Bolstered by several newcomers adding to the team that qualified for the NPL through the Confederation Play-offs at the end of last season, MBUFC is hoping to make an impact and a win today would go a far way to make up for their loss on Sunday.

MBUFC were one of the busiest teams in the transfer market and among their most notable additions are former Frome FC midfielders Adrian Robinson and Shane Anderson; Troy Reid, formerly of Reno, and national defender Keniel Moodie from Waterhouse.

Meanwhile, Reno will be home to Waterhouse at Frome as both will seek to maintain their winning starts while Village will be away to Sporting Central at Brancourt.
