ATL Automotive’s journey with Jamaica by Bike
ATL Automotive has partnered as presenting sponsor with the thirteen-year strong Kingston to Negril charity ride — Jamaica by Bike. The increasingly popular event, proceeds from which are in aid of the Sir John Golding Foundation, has attracted over one hundred bicycle riders at each staging in recent years. This year ATL Automotive, through the Volkswagen commercial brand, will provide support vehicles for the ride with the Amarok — the world’s newest pickup truck.
“Cycling is a growing sport in Jamaica and ATL Automotive is excited to be on board to support this initiative,” commented Christopher DaCosta, sales and marketing manager at ATL Automotive.
“The strength, endurance and power of the cyclists in the event we believe matches the profile of the Amarok in our Volkswagen commercial line,” DaCosta added.
Scheduled for the Heroes weekend Saturday,October 15, the bike ride will encompass six fully serviced stops along the 160-mile journey through scenic Jamaican countryside.
Starting at the ATL Autohaus’ Kingston headquarters at Oxford Road, a convoy of Amarok pickup trucks will lead riders out of town with quick stops in Ewarton in St Catherine and Moneague in St Ann.
Then it’s on to Drax Hall via Golden Grove and Chalky Hill, for another energy-replenishing stop.
Riders will continue westward to Montego Bay, halting only in Duncans for a short rest and re-charge. The scheduled lunch stop is at ATL Automotive West, the Bogue City Centre-based state-of-the-art VW showroom in Montego Bay.
The final leg into Negril follows; the cyclists pulling in and powering up at Lucea, Hanover — the only break in the scenic forty-mile stretch which runs from Bogue straight to Negril’s Long Bay Beach, Park 1.
Return transportation will be made available for the first 40 participants indicating that they require it, said the sponsors.
Registration for the event is available online at www.jamaicabybike.com or through telephone at 310-7481.
“We hope to stay with this event and watch it grow to where we will be seeing thousands of local, regional and international participants,” remarked DaCosta.
