Majestic Sushi & Grill at Villa Ronai, Stony Hill, has become the buzzing eatery. Eschew all thoughts of downplaying the fab as chef/patron Kazumi Taka Utoguchi makes no apologies for advising customers to “Dress up for dining”.

Utoguchi, who also operates the popular East Japanese Restaurant at Market Place, explained that whilst “East Japanese has a pub feel, more like a casual New York-styled restaurant”, this restaurant is definitely more upscale. The menu varies, too “Majestic is,” he shares, “fusion Japanese… it has a touch of Italian because we use tomato sauce, and Indian as well because of the curry sauces we cook some dishes with,” the animated restaurateur told SO. With Prime Minister Bruce Golding, Grammy-winning reggae star Sean Paul, NCB managing director Patrick Hylton, Scotiabank president Bruce Bowen, and Jamaica Broilers chief executive officer Christopher Levy among those who have already dined at Majestic, there’s little doubt the Asian-themed cuisine is of a superlative standard (there have been reports, however, about slow service).

The restaurant, constructed by local architects Dean Kirkland and Lisa Moo from a design plan drafted by Japan-based Tokuo Hagachi, comfortably seats 68 persons in the main dining room, while private dining accommodates 12. Patrons are raving about the sea bass and grilled black cod as well as the Japanese mojito and the imported Japanese beer Ashi, either of which can be sipped at the art-deco- like bar. SO features Majestic’s fab minimalist décor and its splendid cuisine.
