Dennis Brown is widely regarded as one of Jamaica’s most influential music icons. Throughout his career he recorded countless hit singles and albums. His body of work, which spans from the late 60s to the time of his passing in 1999 represents one of the treasured catalogues of music in the modern era of Jamaican music. Such was the magnitude of his work that even today he still regarded as the Crown Prince of Reggae.
Brown’s first recording was an original song called Lips of Wine for producer Derrick Harriott. However, his first release was a single titled No Man Is An Island, which he recorded at the age of 12 for Clement Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One label, in late 1969. Over the next three decades he went on to record for numerous top producers scoring hit after hit both locally and abroad.
Dennis Brown also established himself as a music producer of note, while operating his own labels DEB and Yvonne’s Special. Under these labels he produced several of his own albums as well as songs for other artistes including Gregory Isaacs, Bob Andy and Junior Delgado.
