Tivoli, W’House fail to spark
Tivoli Gardens 1
Boyd (89th penalty)
Waterhouse 1
McIntosh (83rd)
JERMAINE ‘Tuffy’ Anderson turned from hero to villain in a few minutes as Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens battled to a dramatic 1-1 draw in their top-of-the-table National Premier League (NPL) clash at the Edward Seaga Stadium last night.
The hard working Anderson turned his marker inside out and delivered a perfect right-sided cross for substitute Gary McIntosh to tap home from close range in the 83rd minute.
But six minutes later, Anderson virtually handed Tivoli Gardens a lifeline when he was adjudged by referee Raymond Bogle to have handled the ball in the box, hence the late penalty.
Navion Boyd easily converted from the spot in the 89th minute past goalkeeper Richard McCullum, for a share of the points.
Waterhouse, who were dropping their first points of the season from four games, inched to 10 points, but saw their lead reduced to just one point by Sporting Central Academy, who defeated Humble Lion 2-1 at the Effortville Community Centre.
Tivoli Gardens, who started the day in second spot on seven points, slipped to third place with eight points from four games.
In front of a packed venue, the NPL leaders failed to really produce the kind of football the fans were expecting.
But the visiting Waterhouse were left peeved after scoring late and must have taught they had three points in the bag and a chance to extend their lead atop of the table.
But that was not to be and coach Donovan Duckie, though diplomatic, was clearly disappointed with refereeing of the game and the awarding of the late penalty to Tivoli Gardens.
“This is more than about the point. The players are the most important ones and I am disappointed with a number of things which I won’t say,” said Duckie.
In another game, Reno FC and Portmore United drew 0-0 at Frome.
