Unbeaten Fire Services set for semi-finals in Insports basketball
UNBEATEN Fire Services will take on Portmore Blazers in the second-round quarter-final play-off competition in the 2011 Insports/SDC/SDF-sponsored Southern Basketball Conference (SBC) Division League competition which continues today at the National Stadium Basketball Courts, starting at 6:15.
The other play-off game today will be between Portmore MegaMart and the once unbeaten Spanish Town Meadows, beginning at 7:45.
Fire Services have won their opening game against Link-Up All-Stars 54-52, while Blazers have lost to Link-Up All-Stars 50-62 in Group Two. Both teams will be meeting for the first time this season as they were placed in different zones of the preliminary rounds.
Meanwhile, in the second game, Spanish Town Meadows need to win to stay in contention for a place in the semi-finals, as Portmore MegaMart won their first game 48-45 against North Street Heats in Group One.
Results of play-off groups played last Saturday: Portmore MegaMart defeated North Street Heats 48-45; Link-Up All-Stars defeated Portmore Blazers 62-50.
Matches played last Thursday: Arnett Gardens Rockets pulled off an exciting 59-58 win over Rae Town Raptors in a Group Three fixture; Denham Town defeated Hagley Park Thorns 78-57; Swallowfield through two crucial three-pointers from National Premier League’s Kevin Lamey helped his team to defeat Rae Town Raptors 71-64.
Eastern Piston defeated Hagley Park 76-68 in a Group Four fixture.
The previous Saturday saw unbeaten Fire Services coming out with a narrow 54-52 win over Link-Up All-Stars and North Street Heats stunned Spanish Town 53-49.
