Gore awaits upgrade for Dover assault
WITH his competitors upping their tempo for a final assault at Dover Raceway on Heroes Day, track record-holder Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore is sweating on a crucial piece of equipment to upgrade his Audi TT DTM motorcar to stave off all challengers.
Gore, driving the ATL-sponsored four litre V8 Audi TT DTM, set a new Dover track record of 1.18.114 minutes with a breathtaking performance at the Independence of Speed Race Meet in August and another outstanding drive is pending.
As for breaking his own track record, Gore is cautious and thinks further upgrading to the Audi is crucial in that aspect.
“We have bought some new rims for the car but at this moment, they are stuck in Customs and we are trying our best to get them for this race meet. If we get them cleared in time, anything is possible,” revealed Gore.
The previous record of 1.18.47 minutes was held by David “The King” Summerbell Jnr since 2009 and Gore knows he will be coming with vengeance in his eyes to recapture his crown and expects stiff challenges from the other drivers as well.
“David has upped the game again, buying many things for his car, including a sequential gear box to name a few,” Gore pointed out.
“Chris Campbell has also been working on his car, along with Bull Thompson, so it should be an exciting meet,” he said.
When ATL Autohaus unveiled their German racing machine earlier this year, many fans doubted whether or not Gore could get the best out of it. But that was quickly put to rest after a few meets.
“The Audi TT has been a dream come true for me. This car has taught me a completely different driving style, taken me to another level of my racing career,” said Gore.
“The German technology, reliability has been key as the Mitsubishis I drove before always had mechanical problems. With this car, all I have to do is concentrate on driving the car,” he added.
The record-breaking race was the pinnacle of the heated rivalry between the two motor-racing giants — Gore and Summerbell — and fans can expect nothing less from Gore.
“Win, win, win. It has always been my motto from I was a kid in any sport I played,” said Gore.
