Jamaicansmusic.com reaches one million Facebook likes
THIS week the Facebook page for Jamaicansmusic.com website (www.facebook.com/jamaicanmusic) reached a million “likes” and a Top 40 spot in the Facebook Page Leaderboard on www.AllFacebook.com.
Over a million Facebook users have clicked the “like” button after visiting the page, signalling to their friends, family, and the world that they are happy to be connected to the Jamaicans Music site which promotes Jamaican music and Brand Jamaica simultaneously.
Now ranking in the top 40 of all Facebook pages in the website category and in top 3,000 of all pages according to www.allfacebook.com. Also included in top overall pages are musical icons Sean Paul, who ranks #191 and Bob Marley who ranks #10 in the Musician/Band category.
Turning “millionaire” is an amazing accomplishment for 22-year-old tech entrepreneur and CEO Alex Morrissey, who is known for rolling out new innovative tech products to engage his fans.
“Just last month, we were doing a countdown to 500,000. It’s always about setting goals and then working hard to exceed them. It feels great, however, now I’m more motivated to move on to the next goal,” say Morrissey.
Jamaicansmusic.com was launched in 2008 and dedicated to all forms of Jamaican music from mento to dancehall. Just last month, the page celebrated its half-million milestone as it was at 500,000, fans but last week the likes accrued an astonishing additional 700,000 fans.
But what was the catalyst for the spike?
“I am not exactly sure but you saw a general increase across all demographics and a large spike in Colombia and Chile as well. The fans are the heartbeat of the movement and it’s like a fever and everyone is catching on,” he explains.
Certified Jamaican social media guru, Morrissey combines apps, games, and interactive advertising on his Facebook page to inform, entertain and engage his audience, who originate from the United States, Indonesia, Colombia and Mexico in the large numbers according to Facebook Insights. In addition, the Facebook page has over 50,000 fans located in Jamaica.
