Portmore take on ‘City’ in LIME KO
BIG guns Portmore United will take on Ensom City in the second round of the LIME St Catherine Lincoln ‘Happy’ Sutherland Knockout today at the Ferdie Neita Park starting at 6:00 pm.
Portmore United, the only premier league outfit in the competition, will be hoping to stop the major upsets in the competition following the early exits of Rivoli United and Black Lions.
In the other second round games on today, Major League campaigners Rodwood and Portsmouth clash at the Prison Oval at 3:00 pm, before Division One outfit Treadways hunt the scalp of major League team Frazsiers Whip at 5:00.
Portmore United, who missed out on a spot in the Red Stripe Premier League end-of-round final set for next Sunday, will want to stay in the competition and possibly add another trophy to their collection.
Pormore’s bunch of Tremaine Stewart, Roen Nelson, Michael Spence, Odoah Nickle, Adrian Reid, Ewan Grandison should prove too much for Ensom City.
On Sunday, Super League team Bodles whipped a Flamingo team playing two divisions lower, 3-0, courtesy of a double strike from Rohan Bartley in the 58th and 62nd minutes. Dave Bertram netted the third, a minute from normal time.
Division One outfit Old Harbour Bay also advanced to the next round at the expense of Major League team Dunbeholden 1-0.
A 34th minute penalty by Lowan Myers continued the upsets in the knockout tournament involving teams from different divisions.
McCook’s Pen got the better of Watson Grove 4-3 on penalties after battling to a 2-2 draw in normal and extra time.
Damion Wellington netted both goals for McCook’s Pen in the 53rd and 83rd minutes, while Andre Thomas and Sheldon Dean scored for Watson’s Grove in the 35th and 88th minutes, respectively.
Super League outfit Dela Vega City survived a scare to get by Division One team Upfront United 1-0 in extra time. It took a Richard Oats strike in the 118th minute to avoid another major upset.
In the clash of the Major League teams, a Patrick Smalling 35th minute goal was enough as Christian Pen defeated Spanish Town Police, 1-0.
