Chant Nyabinghi in Trainers’ Trophy event
The United Trainers’ organisation will have their day at Caymanas Park today with an 11-race card headlined by the $715,000 United Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy feature set to be run at approximately 4:35 pm. First post at 12 noon.
A Restricted Stakes, sprint-typed, event over 1,820 metres for imported three-year-olds upward (NW3 and maidens) and native-bred three-year-olds, it has attracted eight starters with the American import Nyabinghi set to open as the morning line favourite.
And rightly so having recorded the fastest time over the distance in better company and now being piloted by the mercurial five-time champion jockey Winston Griffiths who has been riding in good form of recent times.
A three-year-old chestnut filly by Halo’s Image out of Dixieland Gulch (Gulch) bred by Bridlewood Farm in the USA and owned by Miss Suckie, Nyabinghi at a stage of noticeable improvement.
The late running filly has shown a particular liking for the this distance and will go in search of win number two from three starts having failed by a neck in her second attempt to peg back another but capable native-bred three-year-old colt Cold Ground in the Royal Dad Trophy on October 22.
Prepared for the races by trainer Peter McMaster, the improving daughter of Halo’s Image will face worthwhile opposition from a number of runners who also will enjoy two turns. Among the lot are Dontsayaword, Jovoun The Master, American imported mare Alex’s Song and the America-bred roan filly Lady Macbeth. Notwithstanding this, Nyabinghi has worked industriously for her third consecutive run over 1,820 metres and with the master reinsman Griffiths occupying the saddle on this occasion should not be deterred despite topping the scales at 55.0kg.
Elsewhere a number of races are named in honour of a number longstanding trainers of the association — Robert Darby Snr, Frank Parham, LC Todd, Collin Blair, Bernard Vincent, Richard Azan and association president Richard Todd.
