St Elizabeth Parish Council worry about closure of Lovers Leap
BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth – THE St Elizabeth Parish Council is to write tourism-related agencies, including the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDC) and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), seeking answers regarding the closure of the Lovers Leap attraction in South East St Elizabeth.
The attraction, which is among the most popular on Jamaica’s south coast, has been closed for almost two years after the lessee vacated the property which falls under the control of TPDC.
A decision was taken at the last meeting of the St Elizabeth Parish Council to write the agencies after councillor for the Myersville Division, Richard Parchment raised the issue.
Parchment noted that while the TEF had been named as one of the main funding agencies for the rebuilding of the Black River Market to enhance community tourism, it appeared that scant attention was being paid to the reopening of Lovers Leap, which was an established tourist attraction.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness also pledged to probe the Lovers Leap issue during a recent meeting with St Elizabeth business leaders in Black River.
