St Catherine lead zone winners into T20 ‘quarters’

REIGNING champions St Catherine CC led six zone winners into the quarter-final stage after last weekend’s series of matches in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) JAM Twenty20 (T20) competition.

Melbourne CC, Kingston CC, St Elizabeth CA, St Ann CA and Hanover CA were the other zone winners.

Former finalist Manchester CA and the combative Westmoreland outfit also progressed as the two best second-placed teams.

The quarter-finals begin next Saturday.

On Sunday, St Catherine CC, guided by respective unbeaten knocks of 51 and 38 from Wayne Morgan and Junior Stewart, easily defeated newcomers Portmore by five wickets to secure top honours in Zone F.

Scores: Portmore 137 all out (20 overs); St Catherine CC 142-5 (16.1 overs)

In the other Zone F match, Social Development Commission T20 champions Old Harbour bowed out on a high after defeating St Catherine CA by 34 runs.

Scores: Old Harbour 136-9 (20 overs); St Catherine CA 102 all out (16.2 overs)

Hanover came out on as the winner in Zone A after clipping St James by 17 runs.

Scores: Hanover 137 all out (19 overs); St James 120-8 (20 overs)

Also in Zone A, Westmoreland trounced Trelawny by 71 runs to squeeze into the quarters.

Scores: Westmoreland 175-8 (20 overs); Trelawny 106-9 (20 overs)

In Zone B, Krishna Grahams 121 not out pushed St Elizabeth to a 79-run whipping of Clarendon.

Scores: St Elizabeth 201-8 (20 overs); Clarendon 122-7 (20 overs)

Also in Zone B, Donovan Sinclair’s amazing figures of six wickets for four runs helped Manchester to a 76-run win over GC Foster College.

Scores: Manchester 159-8 (20 overs); GC Foster College 83 all out (15 overs)

Crucial half centuries from national representatives Chadwick Walton (86) and Simon Jackson (54) guided Kingston to a comfortable 70-run victory over St Thomas in Zone C.

Scores: Kingston CC 204-3 (20 overs); St Thomas 134 all out (17.5 overs)

In the other Zone C encounter, the Jamaica Defence Force beat Lucas by 80 runs thanks to blistering contributions of 104 from Avroy Harris and 76 from Joseph Palmer. Ramon Senior made 74 not out in Lucas’ reply.

Scores: Jamaica Defence Force 233-3 (20 overs); Lucas 153-4 (20 overs)

In Zone D, Melbourne got full points after Boys’ Town forfeited that fixture.

The other ZONE D game saw Kingston & St Andrew CA surprising Kensington CC by 31 runs.

Scores: Kingston & St Andrew CA 170-4 (20 overs); Kensington 139 all out (19 overs)

St Ann sneaked past Police Sports Club by 17 runs in a truncated match-up to top Zone E.

Scores: St Ann 107-5 (10 overs); Police SC 90-8 (10 overs)

In the other Zone E match, St Mary beat neighbours Portland by 41 runs.

Scores: St Mary 151-7 (20 overs); Portland 110-6 (20 overs)

On Saturday, Renardo Fletcher’s 3-33 helped Westmoreland beat St James by two wickets in Zone A.

Scores: St James 142-7 (20 overs); Westmoreland 143-8 (18.5 overs)

In another Zone A match, Hanover, led by Damion Distin with 3-8 and unbeaten knocks of 28 and 22 from Rickel Walker and national player Kenar Lewis hammered Trelawny by 10 wickets.

Scores: Trelawny 56 all out (16.4 overs); Hanover 59-0 (5.2 overs)

In Zone F, Old Harbour eased by Portmore by 14 runs thanks to Pete Salmon’s swashbuckling 69.

Scores: Old Harbour 156-6 (20 overs); Portmore 142-7 (20 overs)

St Catherine CC beat Manchester CA to win the only previous staging of a JCA all-island T20 tournament in 2009.
