Repairs underway at Mandeville cell block
MANDEVILLE, Manchester- The Mandeville police lock-up is now under repair after a 14-day notice was issued by the Manchester Public Health Department last month to lock down the facility.Observer visited the Mandeville Police Station this week all ninety prisoners were transferred to different lock-ups across the island and work was in progress. Some of the officers assigned to the cell block were redeployed to the out stations that the prisoners are being held Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Area three Derrick Cochrane confirmed.
The notice, which expired on December 7, included among the areas of concern sanitation, ventilation and overcrowding and was disclosed at the Local Board of Health monthly meeting at the Manchester Parish Council.

“The working environment was not as it should so there were daily challenges keeping it to the required benchmarks (and there will be) general security upgrade and heavy emphasis on ventilation and comfort (sanitation) facilities,” Cochrane said.
He said the condition of the lock-up area at the police station has been a “vexing” issue for a long time.
