Jamaicans set education goals this New Year
IT is the start of a new year and with it has come the time for resolutions. Career & Education took the streets last Friday to talk to Jamaicans in the Corporate Area about their career goals for 2012.
Writer Ainsworth Morris asked: “What is your education resolution for the New Year and how do you intend to realise it?”
Here is what they had to say.
Kaydian Douglas, 23, student, HEART Trust
“I want to finish some courses that I began pursuing in early childhood education. For 2012, I want to attend Stony Hill HEART Trust again. I went there before and did level one and two courses, but I never achieved what I set out to achieve, so in 2012 I want to start over.”
Notoya Williams, 28, student, St Joseph’s Teachers’ College
“I am already enrolled in St Joseph’s Teachers’ College and I am focusing on primary-level education. I am in my second year and I want to ensure that I pass all my courses so I won’t have to spend extra on resits.”
Jordan Squire, 17, student, Old Harbour High
“All I want to achieve towards my career and educational goals for 2012 is that of passing my Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination subjects at unit one: Communication studies, management of business, economics, and accounting.”
Cori Squire, 15, student, Glenmuir High
“I want to pass all nine subjects which I will be sitting in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination with grades one or two. That’s my main focus.”
Chantall Armstrong, 19, student, VDTI
“Well right now I am going to school and I am pursuing an associate degree in entertainment and events management. I am also working at the tax administration. For 2012, I would really like to become a professional events co-ordinator. To achieve this, I will have to pass my exams, complete my courses and market myself so that I can get employed in the field of entertainment.”
Suisjaila Wilson, 24, COK Co-operative Credit Union worker
“Basically, I want to continue on the path that I am currently on and studying. I am currently pursuing a degree in management studies at the University of the West Indies. I want to pass my courses, so that I can get this degree and be better able to provide for my family.”
Nakeisha Boswell, 22, sales rep and student, University College of the Caribbean
“In 2012, one of my major goals is to become the best sales representative for my company. I want to always meet my monthly quota. I am now attending UCC and I want to pass all my courses which will aid me in achieving my bachelor’s degree in business administration.”
Trudy-Ann Higgins, 21, student, Edna Manley College
“For 2012, I want to improve on my music and my artwork. I love craft and I love music. I want to learn how to use the strings of the guitar better and also make major improvements in my vocals.”
