Head clash muffles H’View’s 2-0 win
VETERAN midfielder Jermaine Hue inspired Harbour View to a 2-0 triumph over Sporting Central in their Red Stripe Premier League encounter at Compound on Wednesday.
Hue struck with his trademark free kick on 40 minutes, before substitute Ranique Muir secured the points’ two minutes from time.
Sporting suffered a severe blow just after the hour mark when goalkeeper Triston Huntley and Harbour View’s Jahmalie Spence collided in the penalty area as both chased a loose ball.
The head collision left Huntley unconscious, while Spence also required treatment.
The goalkeeper was rushed to the Medical Associates Hospital, then to Nuttall Hospital before ending up at the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he was treated and released at about 12:30 am yesterday.
Coach Vassel Reynolds was relieved when he spoke to the Observer yesterday. “He’s at home recuperating now, so things are looking up,” he beamed.
According to Reynolds, Huntley regained consciousness an hour after being rushed from the playing field. He said tests revealed a ‘tumour’ about the player’s swollen left eye, and doctors had given the player instructions to seek medial help if certain things happened.
The coach was very quick to thank all those who aided his player, and he had special commendation for referee Raymond Bogle, whom he said called on behalf of his refereeing team, to get an update on the player, after having gone to the Medical Associates Hospital.
“It had nothing to do with on the field, it was just the human side that he showed, and we know that generally people are quick to criticise referees, so we have to big them up for something like this,” he said.
