MoBay United take 2nd end of round final
MONTEFGO Bay United captured the Red Stripe Second End-of-Round final defeating Portmore United 3-1 on penalties after battling to a 1-1 draw in normal and extra time at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Veteran striker Roen Nelson had given Portmore United a 42nd minute lead before. Kemiro James pulled Montego Bay United level in the 85th minute.
Both teams failed to add to the scores in extra time and unto the dreaded penalty kicks setting the stage for goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett to emerge the hero.
The tall shot stopper saved three of the Portmore United spot kicks denying Adrian Reid, Ewan Grandison and Ricardo Cousins.
Ironically Portmore United’s Tremaine Stewart who had a relatively poor game, scored arguably the best penalty of the night for either side.
Troy Smith, Fabian McCarthy and Leon Irving netted for Montego Bay United as they walked away with the $250,000 winning prize.
Portmore United which won the First End-of-Round final over Tivoli Gardens, had to settle for the runners-up spot and $150,000.
It was a deserved victory for Montego Bay United who outplayed Portmore United for a historic win.
