New Year BEAUTY RESOLUTIONS — MAINTAIN

How exciting! We’ve gone through NYBR #1 – Detox, #2 – Commit and #3 – Renew. Having been diligent and realising that you can achieve anything you determine important enough, let’s move on to the last New Year Beauty Resolution #4 – Maintain. You know the saying, “You never miss the water till the well runs dry”. Suffice it to say, you don’t want to be in that situation, and the key is to practise maintenance. Cultivate good habits and stick to them. I recommend focusing on maintaining overall beauty and wellness at home, work and play.

At Home:

Kitchen – Good nutrition is one of the fundamentals of wellness and beauty. Continue to stock up on organic locally grown fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Make home-cooked meals at least three times per week ensuring you control salt and fat content in your food or for those of us who are feeding a large family, follow Rachel Ray’s week-in-a-day concept where you prepare five dishes on one day that are easy to freeze and reheat.

Bathroom – Organise your bathroom with all the necessities to cultivate a calming environment. Keep a constant supply of your home-care professional skin products. AM – Foaming Cleanser, Lotion Toner, Anti-Aging Serum, Anti-Aging Moisturiser, SPF 30. PM – Deep Cleansing Scrub, Micro-dermabrasion Mask, Active Contour Eye Cream and Mask, C Renewal Continuous Care Night Cream, Secrets Lip Serum. This routine can be adapted according to skin type and should be done daily to prevent premature aging and maintain the beautiful skin you currently enjoy.

Bedroom – Your night stand should be your secret stash of goodies. Be sure to fill it with a good read; I’m currently into the life of Cleopatra. Your sleep eye mask, Callus Therapy Foot Cream, Cuticle Oil for nails, and socks to help keep feet warm and allow products to penetrate. Keep a bottle of water at hand and I guarantee a restful sleep and a totally rejuvenated you every morning.

At Work:

Handbag – It’s okay for guys to be afraid of the mysteries of a woman’s handbag. You, on the other hand, shouldn’t be daunted by a heavy, overcrowded pocket book. Key items only: pen, phone, keys, wallet, SPF, lipstick, eyeglasses, small mirror, iPad. Maintain simplicity.

Office space – The trick to maintaining your weight and fitness is eating the right amount of calories and exercise. Instal a mini fridge with healthy foods and snacks, such as yogurt, cereal, nuts, dark chocolate, water and fruit. Set up a treadmill for a daily afternoon break. Keep full and focused while expending unwanted build-up of tension and stress.

Decor – Decorate your space to suit your taste. Ask for the flexibility to paint, add art and plants. Feng shui your office since attracting strong Chi, or feng shui energy into your office is of primary importance. A strong, vibrant flow of Chi in your office will keep nourishing your personal energy, thus allowing you to focus on and achieve whatever goals you have for yourself.

At Play:

Travel bag – Whether it is an overnight, mini-break weekend, business trip or a two-week holiday, ensure you have your basics. Make-up bag with a neutral palette that you can update for evening with some shimmer or black. Skin care for day and night is absolutely vital and you should never leave home without it. Go with a colour scheme and one neutral to mix and match. Keep this up and you’ll be known as the packing guru.

Gym tote – Constant research of the best in running shoes and gym wear will help you be most comfortable and productive during your workouts. Keep your tote packed and ready. If you are into sports, take your clubs, rackets etc with you; you never know when you can get in an unexpected game.

Restaurants – Never get derailed at your favourite hangout spot or eatery. Know your calories and patronise places that will customise your meals and drinks. Maintain a good relationship with the owner/manager/chef and be sure to recommend to friends and family.

Find what works for you and maintain a beauty and wellness regime that will have you looking and feeling your absolute best for 2012.
