Bullets aim to clinch basketball series
TRELAWNY Unique Ballers will try to level the MegaMart/Women’s Super Basketball League best-of-three finals series when they take on Waulgrovian Bullets in Game Two this evening at 5:45 at the National Stadium Courts.
Waulgrovian Bullets defeated Unique Ballers, 51-33, last Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in Game One at the venue. Game Two will be preceded by the third-place play-off between Lady Panthers and Homestead Cougars at 4:00.
Captain Oberon Pittersson scored 17 points for the Bulletts, including seven rebounds and three assists, and she was supported by Latoya Bidwell with 13 points.
Tracy-Ann Kelly scored 15 points with two rebounds and three steals for the Ballers, while Zandria Dell had 12 points.
After a slow start, the Bullets recovered their composure to win by 18 points after the early approach by the Ballers forced them to work for points in the first half.
Winning coach Marlon Nattie said it was a good win for his team and he is hoping to win today’s encounter and wrap-up the series.
“The players were a bit tentative… in the first two quarter and were not really focused by trying to acclimatise themselves to the condition. However, it was not a perfect game for the Bullets or Unique Ballers… but I know that they will be coming at us in the second game as they will be very determined to level the series which we want to clinch,” he added.
Meanwhile, losing coach Everton Travers said his team was poor throughout the game and will have to produce an improved performance today.
“The team needs to play Unique Ballers style if they should win and level the series… But I know that Bullets’ players are much taller in height and much bigger in body-size than the Ballers players, but we need to step up our game and hope we pull it off,” Travers said.
