Norwood Strikers seek to extend winning start
WESTGREEN, St James – Promoted Norwood Strikers will this afternoon seek to extend their good start in Zone B of the St James Football Association’s Senior League, when they take on Salt Spring Roses at Westgreen.
Norwood Strikers, last season’s beaten Division One finalists, was one of two winners on Monday- as the league kicked off with three games- beating Violet Kickers at the same venue.
Montego Bay Boys Club and Granville City will make their debuts when they meet at the UDC field, while Melbourne and North Gully Ambassadors will also meet.
Alex Smith who scored twice in their 3-2 win over Violet Kickers on Monday, is expected to lead Norwood Strikers who will be seeking to continue their winning start.
Meanwhile on Monday, last season’s beaten finalists Little Miami were also winners, blanking promoted Rosemount Gardens 3-0 at the UDC Field to take the lead in Zone A.
Alwayne Simmonds in the 39th minute and Adeno Spence in the 44th minute gave Little Miami a 2-0 lead at half time before Almondo Kelly added a third in the 56th minute to take the fight out of Rosemount Gardens, last season’s Division One champions.
At Westgreen, Alex Smith scored twice for Norwood Strikers to beat former champions Violet Kickers 3-2, in a come from behind victory in Zone B.
Domoniece Brissett handed Violet Kickers the lead in the fourth minute but Kamal Smith in the 14th minute and Alex Smith in the 21st and 28th minutes gave Norwood a 3-1 lead at half time.
Violet Kickers, who were relegated from the Western Confederation Super League two seasons ago, continued to fight in the second half and managed to pull back another goal from Dalton Brissett in the 65th minute.
At Wyndham, home team Mountain Villa came from behind to share points with Revelation in a 1-1 draw.
Orlando Gilpin scored in the 20th minute to give Revelation the lead before Shane Forbes equalised in the 36th minute.
