A vulgar gesture
The reaction says everything about Adele’s all-powerful position in British music: having rudely flicked her middle finger at record company bosses on national television on Tuesday night, she was the one to receive multiple apologies on Wednesday. In a chaotic climax to the 2012 Brit Awards, the singer was ‘cut off’ while in the middle of her acceptance speech after winning Album of the Year. “Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys, then coming to the Brits and winning Album of the Year,” said Adele. “I am so, so proud to be British and to be flying the flag and to be in the same room as all of you.”
She opened her mouth to continue, but was stopped by the presenter, actor James Corden, who had been told that they were out of time and needed to cut to Blur’s finale in honour of the band’s Outstanding Contribution to Music award. “Can I just say, then, goodbye and I’ll see you next time round,” she said. And with that she gave the seated record executives who surrounded the stage a proudly raised middle finger, accompanied by a defiant grimace. It was enough to leave the most powerful men in the music business choking on their cannon of lamb, and spitting out their swigs of the finest Côtes du Rhône. Surely she would never have dared make such a crass gesture at the Grammy awards, held in Los Angeles last week, where rather more is expected of the performing talent.

It’s the pelmet crew!
Sadie Frost and Kate Moss showed no signs of lowering their hemlines any time soon. The supermodel and the fashion designer were snapped out partying in London recently in skirts that barely skimmed their bottoms. Kate, 38, was at the Corinthian Hotel for the James Small Menswear After Show Party with her husband Jamie Hince. As she strutted to her car, her very short brown suede skirt was clear to see as she held onto her rocker beau. Sadie, 46, was at another party at the Dwell shop in central London for the launch of a range of soft furnishings by her friend Meg Mathews.
She looked much younger than her years in the teeny satin number, which showed off her fabulous legs. She was joined by a male friend as she posed for pictures outside the store and teamed the satin playsuit with a tweed jacket. Sadie looked in high spirits and seemed to shrug off the furore surrounding her and her daughter Iris this week when she was forced to apologise for her 11-year-old’s controversial dress which was covered in love hearts with rude slogans.

That’s one way to celebrate
Her career has seen its most fruitful year yet, and Octavia Spencer is currently preparing for a possible win at the Academy Awards on Sunday. And The Help star has now revealed that she has an interesting way of celebrating her success in mind. The 41-year-old told Parade magazine that she intends to treat herself to a breast lift. She said: “I am going to get my boobs lifted. That’s going to be my first gift. I figured going into my forties I want my boobs where they were when I was 17.”
However, the actress admitted that while she is keen to go under the knife, it won’t be happening just yet. She told the publication: “Right after the Oscars I start a Diablo Cody movie. We’re taping out of the country for four months so I wouldn’t be back here until about August. I would want to do this around November. Then that way I could just relax until January.” The star is up for the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture category at Sunday’s Oscars for her role in the box-office smash The Help. And surgery is not the only measure she’s taking in a bid to improve her figure. She revealed to Us Weekly in January that she has been working out with a personal trainer. She told the magazine: “I’m not trying to be a thin mint. I’m just trying to be healthy and look good for me. So another 15 pounds, and I will be fine.”
