Fagan grabs brace in Vietnam Super League
FORMER Harbour View player Andre Fagan scored a brace for Vietnamese Super League team Hai Phong on Sunday in a 3-1 win over Khanh Hoa at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong, a coastal city 120 km east of Hanoi.
Fagan netted in the 42nd and 83rd minutes for Hai Phong’s first win of the season, after teammate Duc Thank Dong opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
Ghanian Jonathan Quartey got a consolation goal for Khanh Hoa in the 60th.
Born in St Mary, the 24-year-old Fagan has started in four of his six matches for Hai Phong this season. He was twice brought on as substitute and was taken off on one occasion.
He shares with countryman Kavin Bryan and Vietnamese Dinh Tung Hoang in a three-prong attack for Hai Phong, which finished just above relegation last year after being runners-up in 2010.
After six matches, Hai Phong are in 13th place of the 14-team league with five points. Hai Phong will next play defending champions Song Lam Nghe An, who are currently in sixth place with 10 points, on Saturday at Lach Tray Stadium at 4:10 am Jamaican time.
Bryan has so far scored one goal from six matches, having been in the starting XI four times.
Devon Hodges, the other Jamaican in the Vietnamese Super League, has scored one goal from five matches for Dong Thap, who are in seventh place with eight points.
Fagan, Hodges and Bryan all played for the defending champions Song Lam Nghe An last season, scoring 10, nine, and seven goals, respectively.
