DESPITE the Reggae Boyz taking on Cuba at the National Stadium, hundreds of patrons turned out for the Ash Wednesday staging of the ‘Double Dose Custom Auto Show’ at Urban Development Corporation’s car park in New Kingston, St Andrew.

Presented by Heels N Wheels, the event offered patrons the opportunity to feast their eyes on stylish antiques to custom cars with just about every alteration imaginable. Boasting flashy paint jobs, stacked interiors, high powered engines and monster stereos over 100 drivers turned out to show off their toys.

The event also featured babes in ‘booty shorts’, quad bike displays, bikers from the Crazy Bikerz crew and drivers from teams including 4 Real Offroading with their vehicles precariously parked atop building blocks.

Event organiser Andrew Lee-Singh seemed more than satisfied with the success of the event.

“Heelz N Wheels in known for showcasing a wide array of automobiles; the best sports cars, the best antique cars, the best road-ready cars and overall defining car culture — which is our slogan,” Lee-singh told Auto.

“We invite all types and makes of automobiles to enter the showcase so when drivers come to Heelz N Wheels they know they might be leaving with a trophy identifying the hard work they have put into their cars as well as the admiration from patrons who come the view the cars. We’re absolutely loving the turnout and the atmopshere here today,” he continued.

Cash prizes of up to $15,000 and trophies were awarded for modifications including Best Interior, Best Rims, Lowest Ride, Best Body Kit, Best Engine Bay, Best In Car Entertainment and Hottest Vinyl Graphics. Prizes were also awarded for Hottest Old School Ride, Hottest Mercedes, Hottest Honda, Hottest BMW, Best Subaru, Best Mitsubishi, Best Scion and the list goes on.

The crowd would determine the winners of the categories that had to do with the general look of the vehicles, while the others were determined by official judges.

Among the crowd favourites on display were a Porsche Panamera S (one of only two in the island), a Nissan 370Z Coupe, a flashy red Jaguar E Type, a 1968 V8 Dodge Dart, a Benz AMG Coupe and a Honda S 2000. Each time a new vehicle entered the venue a large crowd would gather around and wait for the driver to pop open the hood, eager to take a peek inside while enjoying the latest music by Mario (from X Factor), ZJ Johnny Kool and ZJ Ice.

Lee-singh also revealed plans for another staging of the event in October which he believes will surpass this one and will feature all custom cars displaying a wide range of modifications.
