Anchovy Primary claim St James volleyball crown
ANCHOVY Primary aced the St James Primary/Prep Schools Volleyball competition Tuesday when they bested defending champions Irwin Primary, 15-10, 10-15, 12-10, to claim the Juici Patties winner’s trophy.
Captain Roshaun Waite and last year’s zone MVP Okeen Minto led Anchovy Primary, runners-up in 2011, to the top of the three-round competition.
In earlier matches, Anchovy clobbered Chetwood Primary 15-4, 15-7, and overpowered Catherine Hall Primary 12-15, 15-3, 11-4.
Catherine Hall secured third place outpointing Chetwood 15-12, 15-11.
Participating teams received trophies, medals and other prizes sponsored by Juici Patties with Minto, again, taking home the MVP trophy for inspiring the new champions while Jahaina Rose of Irwin Primary received the Juici Patties Mad Skills Award for displaying the best grasp of basic volleyball skills.
The Primary/Prep School Volleyball moves to St Thomas, Westmoreland and St Catherine this week.
Lyssons Primary, Port Morant Primary, Duckensfield Primary and Morant Bay Primary are included in the St Thomas Zone while Greater Portmore, Naggo’s Head and Crescent are some of the primary schools in the St Catherine Zone.
For Westmoreland, the primary schools include Holy Hill, Deauford, Enfield, Savanna-la-mar, Unity, Townhead, Kings, Peggy Barry, Little London, Petersfield and Strawberry.
