Artistic Hair Creations

Sandra Bennett, hair stylist and proprietor of Sandra’s Beauty Salon, considers the hairstyles she creates for each client as works of art. “Doing my clients’ hair gives me a chance to express myself in a creative way,” she explained. This flair for ‘hair art’ first developed when she was 17 years old, and she has built a loyal list of clients since then. The Under the Dryer team and the J Wray and Nephew bartenders popped in for a visit at the chic Ocho Rios salon.

CLIENTS: Kenisha Trudy-Ann Anguin Johnson , Tanieka , Melice Lawson Coombs , Nicole , Nicole Payne Channer , and -Davis Suzette , Keane.

A Burst of Colour

Trudy-Ann Johnson

Though Trudy has been a client of the salon for only a couple of months, she is adamant that this is where her loyalty now lies. She was so impressed by the service she received during her first visit, that she was convinced this was the salon she would continue to visit on a weekly basis. She is usually very conservative; however, she decided to add a pop of colour to her pixie cut to give it additional glam.

Steps:

• Trim the back of the hair with shears.

• Use Ultra Sheen Precise No-Lye Conditioning Relaxer to straighten the hair.

• Remove the product with Motions Oil Moisturizer Moisture Crème Neutralizing Shampoo.

• Apply Motions Oil Moisturizer Silk Protein Conditioner to the hair.

• Combine Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion to the hair.

• Flat-wrap the hair.

• Sit under the dryer until hair is completely dry.

• Apply coloured extensions to the front of the hair.

• Trim the front of the hair.

• Apply Dudley’s Crème Press and The Fantasia IC Hair Polisher and Olive Moisturizing Shine Serum.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to apply wave-like curls.

• Mist the hair with Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz by Mizani to keep curls in place.

• Use a wide-tooth comb to finish the look.

Trudy-Ann’s take:

I love my hair!

Makeover Magic

Melice Coombs

Melice is not always open to trying new looks. Though she often imagined what she would look like with a new colour or cut, she was always very reluctant to change. However, she finally mustered up the courage to change the length of her hair by adding extensions for the first time. “I am really excited to see how my hair will look once Sandra is finished,” Melice explained as she had the extensions applied.

Steps:

• Cleanse the hair with Mizani Scalp Care Shampoo.

• Apply Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner.

• Apply a combination of Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion.

• Sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

• Use the bonding method to apply extensions to the hair.

• Soften the natural hair with Dudley’s crème press.

• Flat-iron the hair.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to create barrel curls.

• Style with a wide-tooth comb.

Melice’s take:

It’s perfect.

Classic French Mani

Nicole Payne

Nicole has been getting her nails done by Patrice Haye for about eight years. Over the years, her style has remained conservative and classy. “When I come to the salon, I feel at home. They seem to understand that my look must be appropriate for the office,” she explained. She decided to get a classic French manicure and pedicure, which Patrice executed flawlessly.

Nicole’s take:

“I am always pleased with the service I receive here. I am a perfectionist and I must say that it is always done exactly how I want it to be done.”

Fierce ‘Do

Nicole Channer-Davis

Nicole has always been a fan of maintaining a low and funky hairstyle. Six months ago, Sandra suggested that she try a Mohawk-like hair cut as it suits her preference and her bubbly personality. She agreed and has not looked back since.

Steps:

• Trim the hair into shape.

• Use Ultra Sheen Precise No-Lye Conditioning Relaxer to straighten the hair.

• Remove the product with Motions Oil Moisturizer Moisture Creme Neutralizing Shampoo.

• Apply Motions Oil Moisturizer Silk Protein Conditioner to the hair.

• Apply a combination of Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion, then flat-wrap the hair.

• Sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

• Use a hand-held dryer to straighten the hair.

• Mist the hair with Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz by Mizani.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to curl the hair.

• Style the hair with a wide-tooth comb.

• Finish the look by misting the hair with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray.

Nicole’s take:

It is splendiferous! It is wonderful! I love it!

Colour-coded Cut

Tanieka Lawson

Tanieka has always wanted to experiment with colour but never got the opportunity to do so before this visit. She therefore tried a variety of colours hoping that she would not regret it. Tanieka opted for fuchsia, auburn and black extensions to the front of her hair.

Steps:

• Trim the hair to the desired shape.

• Segment the hair with aluminium foil and apply a mixture of basic white by Clairol and Super oxide to each segment.

• Once processed, apply Dudley’s Fantastic Colors Conditioning Extreme Red Hair Colour to the back of the hair.

• Rinse the hair with Motions Oil Moisturizer Moisture Creme Neutralizing Shampoo.

• Shampoo the hair a second time with Mizani Scalp Care Shampoo.

• Apply Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner.

• Apply a combination of Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion.

• Flat-wrap then sit under the dryer until the hair is completely dry.

• Use the bonding method to apply hair extensions to the back of the hair to give it body.

• Lightly mist the hair with Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz by Mizani.

• Curl the hair with a ceramic curling iron.

• Finish the look by misting the hair with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray.

Tanieka’s take:

It is a transformation. I love my new look — the cut, colour and style — it is fantastic. I feel like a new person.

Slicked Back

Suzette Keane

Suzette has been a client of Sandra for over 13 years. “ I trust her completely. I am so afraid of other persons touching my hair because I know that she is the best at what she does. I am so loyal to that salon that I move with her wherever she goes,” said Suzette. She also confessed that most of her hair decisions are based solely on the suggestions that Sandra makes.

Steps:

• Cleanse the hair with Mizani Botanifying Conditioning Shampoo.

• Hydrate the hair with Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner.

• Apply a combination of Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion.

• Cut the hair.

• Flat-wrap the hair, then sit under the dryer.

• Curl the hair with a ceramic curling iron.

• Apply Dudley’s Crème press to the sides of the hair.

• Use a wide-tooth comb to style the curls.

• Finish the look by lightly misting the hair with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Nourishing Sheen Spray and Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz by Mizani.

Suzette’s take:

It’s flawless. I really like it a lot.

Curly Locks

Kenisha Anguin

One often expects a woman’s hairstyle to reflect her personality. This was certainly the case with Kenisha who opted to have a colourful ‘do with beautiful curls. Sandra assured her long-time client that she would get the results she expected without even fully explaining what she wanted.

Steps:

• Cleanse the hair with Mizani Scalp Care Shampoo.

• Apply Ashley semi-permanent copper hair colour to the front of the hair and Dudley’s Fantastic Colors Conditioning Extreme Red Hair Colour to the back of the hair.

• Allow products to remain in the hair for at least 20 minutes before rinsing with Mizani Scalp Care Shampoo.

• Apply Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner.

• Apply a combination of Smooth ‘N Shine Polishing Curling Mousse, Africa’s Best Organics Olive & Clove Oil Therapy and KeraCare Setting Lotion, then roller-set the hair.

• Sit under the dryer for 45 minutes.

• Once the hair is dry, remove the rollers and contour the curls with your fingers.

• Mist the hair with Bronner Bros Pump It Up Styling Spritz — GOLD formula.

Kenisha’s take:

My hair is beautiful and I love it!
