Unity cop Westmoreland Primary/Prep Volleyball
UNITY Primary, coached by Andrew Holness, topped the Westmoreland Primary/ Prep School Volleyball last week when they thwarted Savanna-la-mar Primary 15-8, 15-8 in the final.
“The team played very well and are deserving of victory… it was also good that they had the opportunity to play in front of their fellow schoolmates. However, we will be working on some areas of weakness in preparation for the National Finals in Kingston,” said Holness.
As Holness expressed his confidence at a crack at the national title, Savanna-la-mar Primary coach, Taffarie Samuels was pleased with the effort of his team to the very end.
“The positive attitude of the team along with their teamwork is what has brought them this far in the competition… we have now qualified for the National Finals and will be doing a lot of work in the interim,” Sanuels explained.
In the semi-finals, Unity tripped up Holly Hill Primary 15-9, 15-1, while Savanna-la-Mar outduelled Little London Primary 16-14, 8-15, 15-10.
Unity captain Kaldane Channer and Savanna-la-Mar Primary captain Akeem Miller earned the MVP and Madd Skills Awards, respectively.
Holly Hill and Little London Primary schools will also advance to the National Finals at the National Volleyball Facility at the National Stadium on April 13.
In the well-represented Westmoreland zone, Loving Care beat zonal defending champions Enfield
Primary 21-7 to take fifth place, while Beaufort got past Strawberry Primary 21-6 in the battle for sixth and seventh-place.
Based on the points differential, Enfield ended in eighth position.
