Chai Chong retains top golfing post
WAYNE Chai Chong remains the president and head of the management committee of the Jamaica Golfing Association (JGA) at recent elections.
Chai Chong was returned unopposed to the top post, while Vikram Dhiman will serve as treasurer, both for a period of two years each.
Also returned unopposed to the executive were ladies representative Michele Gabay and assistant secretary, Terrence Allen. Members of the ordinary committee are Michael Boyd, Dave Lyn, Grant Pisko, Allison Reid and Thomas Smith, who will each serve one-year terms.
The focus of the incoming executive will be on promoting the sport and moving it in a direction where it will experience growth, particularly in the area of junior golf.
Chai Chong made mention of the In-the-City Programme started at St Anne’s and St Aloysuis Primary School, noting that the sessions are poised to be restarted with the support of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrew.
Additional schools are to be drafted into the programme, however, corporate support is needed to finance this venture.
Chai Chong expressed regret at having lost the use of the Golf Academy and hoped that the Association will be able to arrive at some kind of agreement with the Urban Development Corporation, as the facility is deemed critical to the development of the sport.
