Flamingo draw first blood; ‘Bay’, Upfront even
FLAMINGO FC drew first blood following Sunday’s first-leg semi-finals at the Brammy Clarke Sports Complex.
The Gordon Pen side turned the tables on rivals Albion United with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory, thanks to a double strike from Delano Williams.
In the feature game of a double header, Upfront United and Old Harbour Bay FC played to a 1-1 stalemate in their third-straight meeting this season.
Gawain Smith’s 62nd-minute strike was cancelled by Old Harbour Bay’s Ransford Swaby, who scored two minutes from the end when he volleyed in Lowan Myers’ cross.
After an enterprising first half, Smith finally broke the deadlock about the hour mark with a cool finish from inside the box after controlling a high cross with his chest.
Swaby, who surprisingly started on the bench, came on moments later and made a telling difference in midfield. His cameo was capped in grand fashion when he found the equaliser and ensured that his team starts the second leg Thursday on par.
With one win from two encounters this season, Albion appeared a confident bunch characterised by Tavoy Morgan’s early goal in the third minute of play.
But their lead only lasted for
four minutes, as Williams pulled Flamingo level.
Both sides created opportunities to take the lead with Albion slightly better. However, on the restart, Williams struck again, this time in the 58th minute and despite their best efforts, particularly in the last quarter of an hour, Albion could not find a way back.
The game is by no means won for Flamingo with the return leg slated for Saturday, but surely now Albion are under intense pressure to reach the finals.
