If you are looking for an easy weekend getaway that doesn’t involve checking into a hotel, then the peaceful and stunning seaside gated community of Silver Sands, located in Duncans, Trelawny might just fit the bill. The owners of these beach cottages – a mixture of Jamaicans and foreigners – rent their houses out to those in search of the ideal intimate holiday.

Think white sand beach that stretches some 300 yards from a jetty, upon which stands a gazebo that has accommodated many a wedding ceremony, to a rugged cliff-face which lies below a few of the Silver Sands’ cottages. Waves lap at the turquoise ocean’s shore and when the breeze is up, the same water affords a little body surfing without being too intimidating for those in search of a casual swim.

The backside of the beach is lined with Casuarina trees and palms, and nestled amongst them is a clubhouse that may be used by all residents. With the reception and a commissary right there, visitors can top up their villa provisions or sit by the bar and sip a ‘Dirty Banana’ cocktail while waiting for an order of chicken and chips from the grill! It’s a great hangout area for those looking to socialise with other vacationers, and in the busy season the club organises crab races, karaoke, and other live entertainment in the evenings.
