Unbelievable Grade 4 science project
Dear Editor,
Over the past months there have been all sorts of criticisms of the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) by some educators, parents and some high-profile Jamaican personalities, including the Most Honourable Edward Seaga. The following science project was shown to me by a Grade 4 student (nine years old), in one of our primary schools, and I thought that there was some justification for the furore over the content of the material that the children are expected to learn.
This is a Grade 4 science project, not college: Topic: Waterborne diseases project must include:
* Title page.
* Table of contents.
* Acknowledgement.
* Introduction.
* Name of diseases.
* How each disease is contracted.
* Signs and symptoms of each disease.
* Cure.
* How each disease can be prevented.
* Pictures if possible.
* Bibliography.
Are our children really ready for this level of education at this age and grade?
