Granville FC into Western Confed semis
LUCEA, Hanover — Granville confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the Captain’s Bakery Western Confederation Super League on Sunday after beating relegation-bound Mt Pelier, 3-1, in a rescheduled game at Watson Taylor Park in Lucea.
Garth Johnson scored twice to give Granville a 2-0 half-time lead as they finished the preliminary rounds with 29 points and in third place.
Wadadah FC topped the tables with 33, two more than Savannah, while Harmony completed the semi-finals on 28 points.
In Sunday’s first leg of the semi-finals at Frome, Wadadah will face Harmony, starting at 1:00 pm, followed by Savannah against Granville.
On Sunday, Johnson, who took his tally to seven goals, tying with Ricardo Reid of Harmony and Gregory Tape of Tomorrow’s People, scored in the 15th and 39th minutes, while Deshaun Woolery made it 3-0 in the 55th.
Lenore Campbell scored Mt Pelier’s lone goal in the 70th, but they will join Jericho Rangers, Frome FC and Invaders as the teams that will be automatically demoted to parish football next season.
