Frasziers, Flamingo cop LIME St Catherine trophies
FRASZIERS Whip and Flamingo FC captured the LIME St Catherine Major and Division One leagues, respectively, at the Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.
Frasziers Whip whipped Rodwood, 3-1, while Flamingo blanked Old Harbour Bay, 2-0, to lift their respective trophies.
A double strike from Codean Smikle in the 23rd and 53rd minutes was complimented by Alton Brown’s 75th-minute strike. Dale Dixon scored a consolation for Rodwood from the spot in the 88th.
Hailing from Fraszier Content, known as Red Pond, Frasziers Whip’s remarkable run continued, winning three different league titles in three years.
Two years ago, they announced their arrival on the scene by winning the Division Two crown. Last year, they won the Division One title and completed the unique feat of adding the Major League crown.
This means Frasziers Whip will contest the South Central Super League next season and if the trend continues, could be playing top-flight football by the 2013/14 season.
Winning coach Rayon Gordon was ecstatic after his team emphatic victory.
“We just have to give God thanks and give the guys credit for maintaining the discipline,” said Gordon.
“We just have to continue to keep focus and work hard and put in the background work,” he added.
It was sweet revenge for Frasziers Whip, who lost the Mid-Season final to Rodwood, 3-5, after leading 3-0 after 15 minutes.
“We wanted them more than ever because we were too confident and lost to them,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Flamingo created a mild upset turning back Old Harbour Bay. Goals by Maron Robinson and Ricardo Herrera handed Flamingo the title. Both finalists have been promoted to the Major League.
