Athletes to benefit from locally produced sport drink
JAMAICA’S first-ever produced sports drink Hi-Lyte Sport Drink was officially launched in Jamaica by Virginia Dare Jamaica Limited at the Knutsford Court Hotel on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, chairman of Virginia Dare Jamaica Limited, R Danny Williams, said it is a very important occasion for his company as Jamaica gets its first locally-produced hydrate, restore and energy sport drink.
“Hi-Lyte Sport Drink has been certified by the Scientific Research Council and is comparable to all other sport drinks on the market. It is distributed by HD Hopwood Limited and is available in supermarkets island wide, retailing for under $100 per bottle,” Williams said.
He said the flavours are all produced and made in Jamaica rather than the imported sport drinks from overseas.
The drink is currently available in three refreshing flavours — Melon Berry Blast, Lemon Lime Zest and Kola Champagne Sizzle.
Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Sharon Folkes-Abrahams congratulated Virginia Dare Jamaica Limited on this new venture.
“I urge Jamaicans to support this locally produced sports drink and help it be very successful, not only locally, but internationally,” she said.
Also at the launch was Olympian Kerron Stewart, who is Hi-Lyte Ambassador since 2011.
