Businesses are less optimistic, says BOJ
COMPANIES were not revved up by the prospects of the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP), but rather felt less optimistic about the state of the business climate during the first three months of 2012.
According to the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), businesses’ perception of present and future business conditions declined, despite the projection for continued expansion in domestic output in the June 2012 quarter.
The results of the BOJ’s most recent survey of expectations contrast the results of the Jamaica Conference Board’s (JCB’s) Survey of Business and Consumer Confidence, which indicated a sharp increase in both indices for the March 2012 quarter.
The JCB attributed the increases in the indices to sharp increases in perceptions of future prospects for the economy.
