INSPORTS/Swizzzle Primary Champs begins
THE 32nd staging of the INSPORTS/SWIZZZLE Primary Schools Athletics Championships begins this morning and ends on Saturday at the National Stadium, starting at 9:30 am each day.
The meet has attracted a record 73 schools participating in 38 events, 19 each for boys and girls. Sponsors SWIZZLE has increased its sponsorship to a record tune of over $10 million — a significant increase over last year’s $6m.
Also, for the first time in the history of the Championships, it will be aired live on CVM TV on Saturday’s final day, commencing at 10:00 am.
The meet, which is being sponsored for the 10th year by SWIZZZLE drink, has received a few more sponsors in Seprod, Hi-Lyte Sport Drink, Delite, Eve, Facey Commodity, Singer and Ministry of Health, who have sponsored different events.
Last year’s champions were Naggo Head of St Catherine with a combined score of 225 points, followed by New Providence with 120 and Greater Portmore with 108.
Naggo Head were also the winners of both boys’ and girls’ sections with 122 and 103 points, respectively.
Naggo Head’s coach Floyd Coke said his charges have an even better chance of winning than last year.
“We have a fabulous team and we’re going for our fourth straight triumph since winning in 2009. Barring injuries, I am very confident Naggo Head should come out triumphant,” Coke said.
