Flippa Mafia takes flight with Dutty Cartoon
DEEJAY Flippa Mafia has returned with a bang. His latest single, Real to the People, which is featured on Board House Records’ Dutty Cartoon ‘riddim’, is blowing up FM radio.
This is not the first time Flippa has worked with Board House Records. They previously collaborated on the chart-topping single Dem Ya, Say Dem a Lippa, Bout Dem a Floss, and Ova Mi Money.
He describes the synergy with the budding label as strong.
“It has been very successful working with Board House Records. We have a good chemistry and this is evident in the songs that we put out, said Flippa, who adds that he wants to bring a different flavour to the dancehall game.
“Right now, we’re trying to bring a jovial thing to the music.”
The artiste has also ventured into music production with the creation of his Flip Money Squad and Flip Money Records.
Flip Money Records made its debut a while back with the Canary Diamond and Extra Fire ‘riddims’ which featured hits from Bounty Killer and Buju Banton.
Flip Money Records’ upcoming project features a riddim created by Big Ship’s Stephen McGregor and is aimed at tapping into the hip-hop market.
Flip Money Squad comprises up-and-coming dancehall acts such as Skilly Banks, Kanambo and Placka Moggela.
Flippa Mafia’s upcoming performances include shows with Capleton on May 12 in Philadelphia, and June 14 in Chicago.
Sizzla makes the Love connection
Sizzla is known for his hardhitting message music, but he changed course with his latest song, Love Connection.
While he is known for roots anthems like Black Woman and Child, Sizzla has scored with lovers rock numbers such as Just One of Those Days.
Love Connection is produced by Adrian ‘Donsome’ Hanson and released on the Donsome Records label.
This is another credible effort from the producer who is best known for the Crime Stop riddim which featured Mama Bawl by Gyptian, Lost Our Way by I-Octane and I Wayne’s Famine and Drought.
Former LOC members team up on new single
Six years ago, pop group LOC scored a massive hit in the United Kingdom and Europe with Ring Ding Ding. Now, former members Lenky and Orthadox hope to create an impact with their latest single, Feeling Wavy.
Growing up in Linstead, both had a love for music and performing.
Orthadox was first involved in stand-up comedy and later performed with Lenky at shows in Linstead.
After immigrating to the UK, they formed LOC with Baby Chris, a singer from the Cockburn Pen community in St Andrew.
After the success of Ring Ding Ding, the trio followed up with Represent which became a club banger in the UK. The group won an Urban Music Award for the track.
While Baby Chris is no longer a member of LOC, Lenky Roy and Orthadox continue to soldier on. They formed LOC Recording and began working with a team of engineers, producers and artistes.
Their first project was Love is in The Air which features Orthadox and Rudy Irie.
M-Gee hunts the big break
Philadelphia – based singer/songwriter M-Gee is on the promotional trail with the singles Never Come See and No Tail.
The former Trench Town High School student revived his entertainment career last year with Never Come See which he said got some rotation on reggae radio stations in the United States and parts of the Caribbean.
He later recorded No Tail which was followed by Can’t Make us Nervous, a collaboration with Mr Easy, Girls Alone, Life Is Not a Joke, and Hypocrite.
M Gee’s live dates are concentrated in the Philadelphia, New York City and Connecticut region.
Silver Words on top
Singer Robert Minott’s cover of Silver Words has topped the Jamaica Music Countdown Top 25 Reggae Singles chart.
Silver Words was made popular in Jamaica in the early 1970s by singer Ken Boothe.
The song was originally written and recorded by Sixto Diaz Rodriquez in 1971.
Minott’s version peaked at number four on the New York Reggae chart. On the Pree Dis Top Ten Singles chart which airs on the TEMPO network, the track reached as far as number five.
