Let’s all do something extra for Jamaica 50
Dear Editor,
While the Government is making big plans (probably $1 billion worth) to mark the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence, it would be a wonderful thing if every Jamaican who is in a position to do so gives back something to the country as his or her personal contribution to mark this special year.
For example, the barber can give a free haircut to someone in need; the physician sees a needy patient free; the farmer can donate some fruits to a hospital; the teacher does an extra hour to teach the children; or the businessman makes a special donation to charity, and so on, all through the society. In this way not only will the people help one another in a practical way but also feel involved and a real part of the celebration.
Often it is little things that make a difference and small gestures that move people.
Let us celebrate this special year by doing something extra.
