Another Food Awards scholarship
The Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) yesterday issued a surprise cheque of $250,000 for a fourth scholarship in the Jamaica Observer Food Awards scholarship programme — which awards selected final-year students in the University of Technology’s (UTech’s) Hospitality and Tourism Management course — at the Awards’ Foodie Seminar held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Vivienne Bayley-Hay (right), VMBS’s vice-president of group marketing and corporate affairs and bearer of the good news, hands over the cheque to Garcia Green-McLennon (centre), UTech’s director of student financing, and Novia McDonald-Whyte, Food Awards chair. Bayley-Hay, who expressed that she was moved by the eight-year-old scholarship initiative, said, “VMBS believes in nation building. To build a nation we must start by empowering our young people, encouraging them and pushing them towards success.”
