DIY and “Get the look”
Stepping out in style these days is a must, and your feet should not be ignored. Large bows on the toes of shoes are a hot trend these days, but be careful. Conspicuous embellishments are not easy to forget, so in order not to be noticed for wearing the same “statement” shoes over and over, why not just get the look when you need it by simply “doing-ityourself”?
This is really simple and versatile because you can do it with many different colours and types of fabric. For this project you will need:
•1/4 yard of different fabrics of your choice
•Plain pumps
•Paper clips
•Band-Aid
I have offered several options, but they are made in basically the same way and mostly feature the hot trend of colour blocking and prints.
1. Here is the blue pump, shown with a contrasting orange. This look mimics the inspiration shoe (pictured) that features a full wrap-around and bow.
2.Shows the same blue pump with an oversized bow made from a bold, striped fabric.
3.Three layers or ascending-sized bows in a bright yellow make a bold statement in colour blocking.
4.The black pump gets a large double bow in a black satin to match the heel of the pump. It’s shown here on the front of the shoe.
5.This large black bow also goes very well on the back/heel of the pump.
To make it:
Measure the front of the shoe from side to side. Cut out two pieces of fabric, measuring that length and 3-4 inches wide.
Cut two other pieces four inches narrower and two inches shorter.
Stitch the raw edges.
Centre the small piece on top of the large piece and stitch in place straight down the centre.
Gather at centre stitch line and secure with a small 1-inch piece of the satin.
You can attach your bows with glue; so long as the glue can be easily removed if/when you wish to remove the bow, or by securing with the same tie at the centre of the bow. You may also use paperclips to hold bows in place and cover the bit on the inside of the shoe with a plaster, to prevent it from rubbing against your toe/heel. This is a quick and easy way to change the look of your shoe and make it coordinate or contrast with your outfit.
