JAMAICA Karting Association president Neil Williams hopes to add a bit of international flavour to this Sunday’s meet at the Palisadoes go-kart track. The action is scheduled to start at 9am.

“We are expecting three overseas drivers to participate in three key classes,” he told Auto.

There should also be an increase in the complement of local drivers through several initiatives by the JKA.

“We are expecting a few new faces in the 50cc class, also known as baby-karts.”

Williams also pointed out the creation of a new class, 80cc, which is being promoted as the bridge to full competition in the higher Rotax segments.

“The 80cc karts are an introduction to full karting. Rather than just learning to drive, they will be learning how to race. It’s a very good programme and will see karts rented at a discount at this meet with the hope that those interested will then purchase.”

Williams expects another day of exciting action as several rivalries will be renewed. The 50cc fight will be a three-way encounter among class points leader Zander Williams, Tommy Gore, and Mark Moodie. Mini-Max should see the Joshua and Justin Sirgany face off with Marc Anthony Eaton.

For the 125cc Rotax Juniors, the trio of William Myers, Frazer McConnell, Jonathon Law — who put on a great show at last meet — contending with a dominant Thomas Issa, who returns with a taste of international competition having been racing in Florida.

Rotax Senior Colin Daley Jr will not be in attendance as he has made the progression into single-seater racing overseas. This leaves Matthew Williams, who has been doing single-seater exercises under the watchful eye of Dover veteran Peter Rae, to clash with Phillip Myers.

Matthew Williams’ lessons can be considered a boon to Rotax Master Peter Moodie Sr, who will have the class all to himself as Rae will not be driving.

“The hectic nature of driving while taking care of my customers is a bit too much, so I’ll be on the sidelines for this one,” Rae said. “But we have a wild card up our sleeves.”
