DEFENDING champions Barbican and former winners Portmore Strikers scored their third consecutive wins on Sunday to lead their respective group’s in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football League.

In Zone A, Barbican stopped Waterhouse, 2-0; Trelawny Women edged Arnett Gardens, 1-0, and debutantes GC Foster scored their first win in three starts — a surprise 4-2 win over Los Perfectos.

In Zone B, Portmore slammed St Thomas Strikers, 5-0; Santos defeated Olympic Gardens, 2-0, and UWI Women stunned Harbour View, 3-2.

Barbican lead Zone A with maximum nine points, three more than Los Perfectos and Waterhouse. GC Foster and Trelawny follow on three points, while Arnett are without a point from their three starts.

Over in Zone B, Portmore lead with maximum nine points, two more than second-placed Santos. Harbour View are third on four points, followed by UWI and Olympic Gardens with three, while St Thomas Strikers are still to get off the mark.

At Barbican, captain Alicia James opened the scoring for the Charles Edwards-coached Barbican with a goal in the 57th minute.

Then Jodi-Ann McGregor, the tournament’s leading scorer, sealed the win for the hosts when she netted in the 67th minute to take her tally to eight goals.

At Elleston Wakeland, Kemuela Onfroy scored the only goal after 63 minutes as Trelawny Women stopped Arnett, 1-0.

In the other Zone A match, home team GC Foster picked up their first points of the competition after Kerall Whyte (20th and 39th) scored a brace and Monique Pryce (30th) and Trenica Woodstock (62nd) one each in their win over Los Perfectos.

Nugene Nugent (12th) and Sashana Campbell (15th minute), had put Los Perfectos into the lead.

In Zone B, Venecia Reid took her tally to four after netting twice against St Thomas at Racing field. The national striker scored in the 10th and 14th, following Shawna Gayle’s opener in the second minute.

Abigail Walker (31st) and Nadola Chase (60th) added further strikes to put the game out of St Thomas’ reach.

At the Bell/Chung Oval, Soibhan James (12th and 43rd) got both goals as hosts Santos turned back Olympic Gardens.

Harbour View suffered a surprise 2-3 loss to UWI at UWI Bowl. The home team took the lead after eight minutes courtesy of an own goal, but Shavell Martin equalised for Harbour View seven minutes later.

UWI then went 3-1 up with strikes from Ornella Gray (32nd) and Sherona Forrester (42nd), and although Trudi Carter scored for Harbour View to reduce the deficit 3-2, UWI held on for their first win of the season.
