We do not own a hearse, says cops. Police rubbish claims of intimidation by JFJ

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police have rubbished a claim by human rights group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), published by jamaicaobserver.com, that a team of cops visited a man’s home with a hearse.

JFJ made claims Wednesday that the police team’s action was an attempt to use intimidatory tactics on Steve Reid, who is on bail on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.

“The JCF strongly refutes these claims, and points out that the report from Jamaicans for Justice is irresponsible, laced with inaccuracies, and has the potential to affect the morale of the hard working men and women of the Constabulary.” a release from the Constabulary Communication Network stated.

Reid resides in the St Andrew Central Police Division, and reports to the Police as required by the conditions of his bail.

“The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) does not have a hearse in its fleet of vehicles. The JCF finds it disturbing that a recognised group like Jamaicans for Justice would rush to the media to sensationalise a story before checking with the other side. We are using this medium to appeal to Jamaicans for Justice to act with a higher level of maturity and responsibility in the future,” the release said.
