1. Percival James Patterson became the sixth Prime Minister of Jamaica.
2. The Jamaica Record, was succeeded in 1992 by the Jamaica Herald.
3. Jamaica won three silver medals and one bronze medal in the Summer Olympics held in Barcelona, Spain.
4. Jamaica competed at the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. The only representatives were the Jamaican bobsleigh team, who did not medal.
5. The popular stage show Reggae Sumfest had its first staging.
6. Michael Manley was granted the Order of Merit for distinguished service in the field of international affairs.
7. Alvin Marriott, world-class sculptor from Jamaica, died on September 20.
8. The Jamaican Women Political Caucus (JWPC), which helps to advance the women in Parliament, was formed.
9. Jamaica’s public passage railway service was shut down in October.
10. Michael Manley received the Carlton Alexander Memorial Award for contribution and service in politics.
