A woman preacher was so angered by criticisms of track legend Usain Bolt that she came to his defence in her sermon at a funeral service on the weekend.

“Recently we all became analysts and commentators and…came to the conclusion that the reasons Yohan Blake was able to beat Usain Bolt in the National Trials were that him party too much; he is not grown up; man seh him mash up every car him get; is the white girl him pick up dun him out; him can’t win again. Some people chat too much!” Rev Ann-Marie Bulgin-Graham declared to mourners packing the Good News Church of God of Jamaica.

“However, Usain Bolt went to London and proved otherwise, and the nation is rejoicing! He stunned all his critics, including the great Carl Lewis who is insinuating that he is on drugs!” said Bulgin-Graham to loud approval from the church at Content, Adelphi, near Montego Bay.

“I was talking to someone the other day and I said, ‘yes, we are on drugs; the drugs is the yam, dumpling, banana and the cassava’. So no matter what anyone says we have to do what we have to do to succeed in the right way, the way that brings a blessing to God and for Him to think well of us,” she preached.

Rev Bulgin-Graham was delivering the sermon at the funeral service for George Thompson, head landscapist at the Spot Valley High School, St James. Thompson, who was eulogised as a community and family man died on July 3. 2012 after a short illness. Pastor Kenrick Thorpe officiated at the service.

Preaching from St John 3:16, Hosea 6:1, Romans 8:28, Psalm 90:3, Bulgin-Graham lashed those people who “feel it is their business to mind other people’s business”.

“Let them talk even though some of us might be hurt by it. What is important, though, is how God sees us, what God desires of us and what God thinks of us…We have no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow for us. When the Lord says in Psalm 90: 3, ‘Return to dust, O sons of men’, we must return to dust. So all those who are injecting substances in their bottom to get bigger bottom, as well as breast to get bigger breast, be reminded that one day all that will not matter for to dust you shall return. Some women go as far as to take fowl pill to get big breasts to attract men. What a life!!!! Humans taking fowl medicine to enhance body parts, but to dust you shall return.”
