FNO Flash Back

Get ready fashionistas, The Jamaica Observer Celebrates Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) next month on Thursday, September 6. Before you begin staking out the retail possibilities and mapping out where exactly you’ll be swiping your plastic, SO takes a trip down memory lane and recalls the fantastic three-year FNO journey that began in 2009.

WHAT’S TRENDING?

Usain Bolt Fever

With three gold medals at the just-concluded London Olympics, Usain Bolt fever is back in full effect. Being immortalized as a Madame Tussaud’s wax figure and making the cover of Sports Illustrated is just the beginning of an all-out Bolt media onslaught.

Yohan Blake

So who cares if his ‘beast’ pose may be a tad contrived, Yohan Blake was looking ever-so-smart, suited up and all at Lord’s cricket ground last Thursday. We approve of your sartorial styling, Mr Blake.

Observer Team in London

While others were more focused on the events of the Olympics, your trusted Observer team upped the ante, adding dynamic Rock-flavoured perspective of Merry Olde England with our lifestyle and news coverage.

Omosexy Heads To the Rock

Nigerian superstar actress Omotola J Ekeinde recently shared dining space with us at Mango Tree Thai Restaurant in London for lunch. We are looking forward to more meal-time convo when she makes a visit to the Rock soon.

Jamaica 50 sunglasses

Olympics, grand gala, and all, Independence pride still reigns supreme. That makes us still loving the Isiaa Madden-Brownie-designed Jamaica 50 sunglasses fine by us.

Baby Bump Watch

What do we love more than celeb-watching? Celebs sporting baby bumps! From Yendi Phillips to Cecile to Etana, the public fascination with famous pregnant women keeps us interested too.

Jamaicans trekking to London for the Summer Olympics

The Rock was well represented at the London Summer Olympics as the well-heeled packed their black, green and gold and made the trek across the pond.

WHAT’S NOT?

Mohawks

They might still be all the rage for some who never got around to reading the memo: the Mohawk is soooo 2005!

Carl Lewis’ Bad-mouthing

Gracious, he is most certainly not. And truth be told we have heard enough of Lewis’s rambling and inventive speculations.

Political Tribalism

Who cares about whatever ‘P’ political side you’re on? It’s high time to bury the hatchet and get on with life.

Mobay Scammers

Pity Western Union had to temporarily shutter its doors for the folks out West to feel the economic pinch that those scammed abroad felt. Now if only we can arrest the situation and save face.

Skin Bleaching

If Vybz Kartel’s skin-care regime is yours too, then we won’t say what we truly think.

Bell Bottoms

Vintage pieces can be trendy but there are some that should stay in their era. Lets retire the bell-bottom, shall we?

JA 50 dinner in London

With much pomp and pageantry to celebrate JA 50 and the fantastic performances at the London 2012 Olympics, we were disheartened that the JA 50 dinner turned out to be a complete ‘pop down’.
