LAST week Tuesday, TEENage was treated to a special performance by the ‘certified diva’ Tifa at the weekly Behind The Screen series, held at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records.

After a short delay — which was supplemented by retro dancehall being played — the host of the proceedings, Ms Kitty, premiered the video for Tifa’s latest single titled Hold On before Tifa took to the stage.

The video, which is set in the Sunshine Amusement Complex New Kingston, is directed and edited by Ruption RD3 Studios. The videos also had celebrity cameos from music industry players VoiceMail, Denyque, Raine Seville, Delus, Dario, members of Washroom Entertainment, and Digicel Stars mentor and member of production team Equiknoxx, Koffy.

Then came time for the Behind The Screen set.

Gracing the stage in a head-turning black and grey outfit, Ruff Kut band backed Tifa and she wasted no time energising the crowd by opening her set with her Overproof Riddim signature track Dash Out. Tifa soon reeled off hit after hit such as Move Ur Body, her recent Hold On, Crawny Gal, and her standout verse on Swaggin.

Tifa was very interactive with the crowd during her set and as promised she brought out some of her entertainment peers as surprise guests.

Patrons were treated to collaborative performances from Tami Chynn for Certified Diva, Konshens for Destiny, and popular singles from artistes such as Suku from Ward 21 and Darrio.

Tifa also showed her immense versatility by impressively belting out her vocal range while performing a cover of Bitty McLean’s lovers rock classic Walk Away From Love, and her interpolation of Junior Tucker’s reggae rendition off Benny Mardones’ Into The Night, entitled If I Could Fly.

In addition, Tifa touched on social issues such as child abuse by performing a song touching on the issue from her upcoming album entitled Twisted Footprints.

Tifa closed her near hour long set with a performance of her signature hit single Spell It Out, and delighted patrons even more with an Olympic-themed remix of the song which included the lyrics “wah do Tyson Gay and him pop dung friend”.

Tifa delivered an interactive, lively, and well put together set at Behind The Screen, and proved that she is a versatile contender within the Jamaican music marketplace.
