SIZZLA Kalonji delivered a fiery set at the Arthur Guinness Day event Thursday at the National Indoors Sports Centre.

The annual concert — first staged in 2009 — celebrates the legacy of the Guinness drink, founded 253 years ago in Ireland by Arthur Guinness.

Thursday’s show was broadcast to 55 countries. The jam-packed centre erupted into screams and whistles when Sizzla’s voice reverberated throughout the venue, and would continue throughout his 25-minute set.

Dressed in white and backed by the Ruff Kutt Band, Sizzla belted out Holding Firm, Simplicity, Solid as a Rock, Praise Ye Jah, and Good Ways.

He later changed the pace and dedicated the rest of his performance to the females.

“Big up to my mother and all the mother of the world,” he said before singing Thank You Mama, and Black Woman and Child.

Female fans to the front of the stage screamed uncontrollably, some with outstretched arms, hoping to touch the Rastafarian artiste.

Others songs performed by Sizzla included Woman I Need You, Give Me a Try, and Just One of Those Days.

He made way for Mavado who was also well received. Like all artistes on the show, Mavado made several toasts to the founder, then performed a string of favourites including Touch Di Road, Come Round, Box of Money, and All Dem a Talk.

The crowd roared with excitement when the deejay spoke words of encouragement for his jailed musical rival, deejay Vybz Kartel.

“Addi, no worry you soon dey road,” he said, before performing Chat Dem a Chat.

Earlier, Pop Caan also delivered a great set while Trinidad and Tobago’s soca singers Kerwin Du Bois and Destra Garcia had the patrons dancing throughout their performances.

Arthur Guinness celebrations also saw Third World performing in St Maarten last night and conclude with I-Octane in Guyana today.
